Once you have clearly identified your business strategy and objectives, the next step is to develop a Performance Profile™ for each of your leadership roles. This process eliminates any personal bias about existing employees and focuses exclusively on what results are required in each role to achieve your objectives in your desired timeframe.
Excelsior’s Performance Profile™ is an objective, logical and scientific approach to defining exactly what is required in a job including the tasks broken down by category, the knowledge and skills for those tasks, the ideal and/or required behavioral traits (attention to detail, assertiveness, communication style, etc.), the estimated % of time doing those tasks and most important, the results or how success will be defined. When used as an employee assessment tool or to screen potential candidates the Performance Profile™ helps you to identify if the employee or candidate:
- Has done these tasks before.
- Possess the required knowledge and skills to execute effectively.
- Have the “natural” behavioral traits or if they will have to modify/adjust their behavior (this identifies how consistent and enjoyable the job will be to them). This is measured against their MPO Personality Assessment which identifies their natural traits, how they feel they need to adjust them to accomplish the job and the level of difficulty for them to do so.
- Have created the desired results before which is one of the best predictors if they can do it again.
- “Want” to do the job which is very different than “Can” they do the job!
